SUMMARY:Holika Dahan
DESCRIPTION:Significance and History\nHolika Dahan\, also known as Chhoti Holi\, is celebrated on the eve of Holi\, the festival of colors. It marks the victory of good over evil and is rooted in the ancient Hindu story of Prahlad and his devotion to Lord Vishnu. \nAccording to mythology\, the demon king Hiranyakashipu wanted everyone to worship him as a god\, but his son Prahlad remained a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu’s sister\, Holika\, who had a boon that made her immune to fire\, tried to burn Prahlad by sitting in a fire with him on her lap. However\, due to her evil intentions\, Holika was consumed by the flames\, while Prahlad emerged unharmed\, protected by Lord Vishnu. \nThis event symbolizes the triumph of faith\, devotion\, and righteousness over arrogance\, evil\, and hatred. \nTraditional Observances \n\nBonfire Rituals: On the night of Holika Dahan\, people gather around a bonfire\, symbolizing the burning of Holika and the destruction of evil. The fire is lit after performing puja (prayers)\, which includes offering coconuts\, grains\, and sweets to the fire.\nChanting and Prayers: Devotees chant mantras and sing songs while circumambulating the bonfire\, praying for prosperity and the removal of negativity from their lives.\nSocial Gathering: Holika Dahan is a time for families and communities to come together\, strengthen bonds\, and prepare for the joyous celebration of Holi the next day.\n\n\nCelebration at Krushna Dham Delaware\nAt Krushna Dham Delaware\, Holika Dahan is celebrated with devotion and joy\, bringing the community together to honor the spirit of this sacred event. \n\nSacred Bonfire Ritual: A traditional bonfire is lit in the temple premises to symbolize the burning of negativity and the victory of good over evil.
