This festival marks the occasion when Goddess Parvati gave her son\, Lord Murugan\, a divine spear (Vel) to vanquish the demon Surapadman\, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. \nThe festival holds deep spiritual meaning\, as it is seen as an opportunity to cleanse oneself of sins\, overcome challenges\, and strengthen one’s faith. It is especially popular among the Tamil Hindu community. \nTraditional Observances\nDevotees undertake acts of devotion and penance during Thaipusam.
